Contract 1G Rollout Welder Job Description

This job description is for a Contract 1G Rollout Welder position. The ideal candidate will have 2-10 years of experience in MIG, Roll Out, Welding. Location in Henderson, CO.

The primary responsibility of this position is to weld metal parts together using a MIG welder. The welder will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints, setting up the welding equipment, and welding the parts together according to specifications. The welder will also be responsible for inspecting the welds for defects and making any necessary repairs.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of MIG welding techniques and be able to work independently. The candidate should also be able to work well under pressure and be able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

Read and interpret blueprints
Set up the welding equipment

Pipe Welder

Shift: 1st or 2nd

We will now be offering an additional weld test for RK Energy. This will be a GMAW-MC 1G Rollout test. This is where the pipe is welded in a flat position on a pipe rollout machine. If candidates donât feel they can pass the 6g FCAW weld test, please ask them if theyâve ever welded on a roll out and if they can pass this test. I am including some additional information about Metal Core (MC). This should help you better understand how it differs from FCAW, as well as the weld test specs. Iâm happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

This will be a 2 hour weld test for Energy. It should be included on your submittals as 1G Rollout GMAW-MC in the same section as our existing testing info.. If they want to take the 6g and 1G make sure to include them both and this will be scheduled in 4 hour allowances to complete both tests. .

1G (Rollout) GMAW-MC (Metal Core) Test

1G means the pipe is positioned horizontally and can be rotated while welding. Think of it like spinning a soda can while trying to draw a straight line on it.
GMAW-MC (Gas Metal Arc Welding - Metal Core) is a type of wire-fed welding that combines aspects of MIG (metal inert gas) welding with flux-core welding. It offers deep penetration and good weld quality.
Purpose: This is one of the easiest tests since the welder can roll the pipe to keep the weld in a comfortable position, making it ideal for production welding.

1^st shift: 5am-3:30pm

2^nd Shift: 2:30pm- 1am

Monday-Thursday with most Fridays and some Saturdays

Some of our parts don't just leave the shop, they leave the planet. When a component ends up in a satellite or on an aircraft, there's no pulling it back for a do-over: it has to be right the first time, because the stakes are quite literally out of this world.

That's where you come in. As our Quality Inspector, you're the last line of defense before a part ships; verifying it conforms to print, GD&T, and customer requirements through accurate receiving, first article, in-process, and final inspection (CMM programming and operation included). The job is simple to say and hard to do: catch the nonconformance here, not at the customer. Measure accurately, document completely, and keep good parts moving.

What Success Looks Like (Your First Year)

By ~90 days: Independently program and run CMM inspections (CMM Manager) on tight-tolerance parts with minimal support.
By ~6 months: Own receiving, in-process, first article (AS9102), and final inspection for your assigned jobs; with documentation that's right the first time.
Ongoing: Customer escapes stay at or near zero; nonconformances are caught in-house, not in the field.
Ongoing: Your FAI and inspection packages are accepted by customers without rework due to documentation gaps.
Ongoing: Inspection keeps jobs flowing. Your turnaround supports the schedule rather than bottlenecking it.
Ongoing: Continual improvement and skillset advancement in CMM programming and inspection efficiency.

What You'll Do

Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of precision-machined aerospace components â verifying dimensional, cosmetic, and documentation requirements.
Develop, execute, and maintain inspection plans based on engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) using CMM Manager (our software); experience with Calypso or PC-DMIS transfers well.
Interpret complex engineering drawings and apply GD&T to ensure accurate measurement and verification.
Record inspection results clearly and accurately, maintaining all required documentation: Inspection Reports, NCRs, and First Article Inspections (FAI per AS9102C).
Identify, document, and support the disposition of nonconformances; partner with machinists, engineers, and fellow inspectors to find root cause and recommend improvements.
Perform inspection in conformance with AS9100D / ISO 9001 and customer requirements.
Use a full range of inspection tools: micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gages, and surface plates.

What We're Looking For

3+ years of quality inspection experience in a precision-machining aerospace environment.
Solid command of metrology, engineering drawings, and ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) inspection methods on tight-tolerance CNC-machined parts.
Hands-on CMM programming and operation (CMM Manager preferred; Calypso / PC-DMIS a plus).
Familiarity with AS9100D and ISO 9001.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving judgment; able to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with ERP software and Microsoft Office is a plus (our team uses Fulcrum).
CNC machining or setup experience is a big plus as it gives you valuable insight into manufacturability and inspection challenges.
