The Welding Technician performs highly precise welding operations in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment producing components that support the U.S. national defense industrial base. This role focuses on welding heat-resistant superalloys (HRSA), carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper alloys, and other challenging specialty materials, while meeting strict customer specifications and NAVSEA requirements.
In addition to hands-on welding, this position contributes to the ongoing development and execution of the organization's welding program. Responsibilities include performing complex welds, supporting and maintaining welding procedures and documentation, identifying opportunities to improve welding processes, and partnering closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Mission Assurance, and Quality.
Performance in this role is evaluated based on welding quality and workmanship, adherence to required welding standards, timely completion of assigned work, accurate documentation, and contributions toward continuously improving internal welding capabilities.
Perform precision welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper alloys, HRSA, and other specialty materials utilizing GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), Tip Tig/Hot Wire TIG, brazing, and other approved welding methods.
Fabricate, repair, clad, and hardface complex components in accordance with customer specifications and established quality standards.
Set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and make necessary adjustments to welding equipment and related support tooling.
Develop, maintain, and assist with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in compliance with NAVSEA requirements.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, technical specifications, and NAVSEA technical publications.
Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Mission Assurance, and Quality to clarify welding requirements and ensure proper execution.
Complete and maintain required welding logs, training documentation, inspection records, and other welding-related records.
Contribute to the continued development and improvement of the organization's welding program, procedures, processes, and workmanship standards.
Participate in recurring customer welding audits and assist with maintaining compliance with applicable customer, regulatory, and welding requirements.
Support the future expansion of internal welding capabilities, including the implementation of robotic welding and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) processes.
Troubleshoot welding problems, identify potential root causes, recommend corrective actions, and participate in continuous process improvement initiatives.
Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, welding-specific safety practices, and PPE requirements.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum 5 years of hands-on welding experience within a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, copper alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys (HRSA).
Proficiency with GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, Tip Tig/Hot Wire TIG, and brazing.
Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot welding equipment, processes, and production issues.
Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing defect-free, high-quality work.
Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable working independently while also collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
Experience working with NAVSEA technical publications and military welding requirements.
Hands-on experience with robotic welding systems.
Experience performing Non-Destructive Testing (NDT); ASNT Level II certification preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
